About the Band

Bringing fresh faces to old jazz, the Hot Licks Jazz Band is a new-wave traditional jazz band from Melbourne. The Hot Licks Jazz Band combines the talents of some of Melbourne’s hottest jazz musicians with the licks to produce a sound that is lively, raw and sure to get your toes tapping.
Band leader and Trombonist Glenn Jacobi and his crew of New Orleans aficionados present a program of hot jazz from the 1920’s and 30’s with swinging vocals, tight arrangements and a repertoire of classic tunes.
Glenn brings a wealth of experience to the group, formerly based in Barcelona, Spain as a member of “Los Krokodillos”, and also having been Musical Director with luxury cruise lines including Crystal Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.
Also featured in the band are well-known Melbourne musicians Dan Gordon on Tuba and Bass (“Ruby Page Quintet”, “Radio Rhythm Orchestra”, “Birth of the Cool Nonet”), Peter Hooper on Banjo (“Royal Garden Jazz Band”, “BBC Quartet”),Assaf Shevach on Clarinet and Vocals (Adelaide’s “Cotton Club Jazz Band”), Andrew Keegan on Drums (“Tigramuna”, “Ark”) and Eamon McNelis on Trumpet and Vocals (“Flap”, “Tom Vincent Quartet”).
The Hot Licks Jazz Band has appeared at the prestigious Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and has been featured at the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival, Phillip Island Jazz Festival and the Coolart Jazz Festival. The band also has performed for the Victorian Jazz Club, Geelong Jazz Club and other events both public and private.
